Fraxel® Dual Laser
Fraxel® Dual Laser is a low-downtime, nonsurgical laser treatment that improves skin tone, texture, and radiance to provide a more youthful appearance while preventing and correcting signs of skin aging.
-
Fraxel® laser is a non-ablative fractional laser that delivers microscopic columns of energy in the form of heat to improve the appearance of your skin. The Fraxel® Dual laser has the capability to deliver two wavelengths of laser energy – one wavelength (1550nm) remodels collagen and improves texture, fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scarring, while the other wavelength (1927nm) improves the appearance of pigmentation such as sun spots (lentigines) and age spots. Fraxel® laser treatments can be performed on any area of the body including the face, neck, chest, and arms. A recent Harvard study demonstrated that regular treatments with the Fraxel® laser decreases the risk of skin cancer.
-
Fractional means the laser energy is delivered in microscopic columns of heat over a small percentage of the skin surface. The untreated portions of skin allow for rapid healing with no scarring and minimal downtime. Fractional laser resurfacing treatments are less risky with less downtime because only a fraction of the skin is treated. Treating a fraction of the skin provides benefits for the entire skin surface.

What to expect?
Your skin will be numbed with a topical anesthetic ointment before the treatment begins. The treatment itself takes about 20 minutes and feels like tiny warm pin pricks. After the treatment, you will have a sun-burn like redness and mild swelling for a few days. Expected downtime varies patient to patient and can range from 2-5 days. Expectations for the amount of downtime will be discussed with you in detail prior to your treatment. After the treatment, you can return to your routine activities and can apply make-up.
Depending on the indication for Fraxel® laser treatment, Dr. DiGiorgio will recommend the appropriate number of treatments required to achieve your goals. This ranges from 3-6 monthly treatments, with maintenance treatments after.
