Platelet Rich
Plasma (PRP)
↓
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a non-surgical hair restoration treatment for both men and women that utilizes your body’s own nutrients to thicken hair and stimulate hair growth. It has also been developed as a treatment for skin rejuvenation.
What to Expect
The first step of the procedure involves drawing a small amount of your blood with a small needle, comparable to any blood draw you may have received for normal blood work. The tube containing your blood will be placed into a centrifuge – a machine that spins the blood at very high speeds – to separate the components of your blood and isolate the platelet rich plasma component. Your nutrient-rich platelet rich plasma is placed into small syringes and injected into areas of hair loss or thinning. You will experience mild discomfort from small needle sticks during the injection. After the procedure, there is a sensation of fullness in the scalp area that resolves within a few hours. You may experience mild bruising or swelling in the treated area. After the treatment, you can return to your routine activities.
For optimal results, Dr. DiGiorgio recommends 3 treatments performed 1 month apart followed by maintenance treatments performed every 6-12 months to sustain the full benefits of PRP. Results vary from patient to patient. Dr. DiGiorgio may recommend combining PRP with additional treatments, such as minoxidil.
Who is a candidate for PRP?
PRP can be an effective treatment for certain types of pattern hair loss. A consultation is necessary to evaluate your hair loss or thinning and determine if treatment with PRP is right for you. Dr. DiGiorgio will only recommend the most effective treatment options to best resolve or improve your hair loss or thinning. All treatments and consultations are performed exclusively by Dr. DiGiorgio.
PRP treatment is an elective cosmetic procedure and, therefore, the treatment is not covered by health insurance or FSA.
