Thread Lifts
To provide a subtle but noticeable lift of sagging skin of the lower face.
↓
A thread lift is a non-invasive in-office procedure in which temporary sutures are strategically placed under the skin to provide a subtle but noticeable lift of sagging skin of the lower face, jowls, and jawline. They may also be used to stimulate collagen production in areas of skin laxity. Thread lifts are also known as suspension sutures or “feather lifts.”
Thread lifts reposition sagging skin and have the effect of pulling loose skin providing a tighter, more defined appearance. Additionally, thread lifts stimulate the production of collagen to provide a lasting result. They can be used anywhere on the body including the face, jawline, knees, and abdomen.
Thread lifts are NOT an alternative to a surgical facelift and are best for patients with mild to moderate skin laxity. Thread lifts do NOT add significant volume to your skin. If you have volume loss, Dr. DiGiorgio may recommend volume restoration with dermal fillers prior to a thread lift to achieve the best results. Thread lifts are NOT an alternative to a surgical neck lift.
Dr. DiGiorgio offers PDO (polydioxanone) NovaThreads to her patients in a variety of different formats to best meet your needs. All PDO threads stimulate your body’s natural collagen production.
Barbed threads are used to grip and anchor tissue and provide the most lifting effect. Smooth and twisted threads are used to stimulate collagen and create scaffolding for loose skin. Dr. DiGiorgio will select the appropriate type of thread to best achieve your aesthetic goals.
What to Expect
Your face will be cleansed with a gentle antiseptic solution and then marked with a white eyeliner pencil to determine which areas will have the most tissue movement and which angles will provide you with the best lifting.
For barbed threads, local anesthesia will be used to numb areas of the sides of the face in front of your ears, where the threads will be inserted. During the procedure, you will feel a firm pressure while the threads are being inserted into the skin. Your skin is not cut or stitched for this procedure. The procedure typically takes approximately 30 minutes.
After the procedure, there is minimal to no downtime, a very low risk of bruising, and mild swelling that is not noticeable. The majority of patients return to their routine activities immediately after the procedure. You will have a sensation of tightness and swelling for a few days. After the treatment, you will still look like yourself, however, your skin will look and feel tighter and more lifted. Results are seen immediately and you will see continued improvement over the course of 3-4 weeks. Thread lifts can be performed in patients of all skin types.
How long does it last?
The effects of a thread lift typically last between 8-12 months.
Combination Treatments
To achieve optimal non-surgical skin tightening and rejuvenation, Dr. DiGiorgio may recommend a combination of treatments. She often combines thread lifts with other skin tightening procedures, restoration of volume with dermal fillers, and improvement in skin texture and tone with lasers.
