Insurance Information

Dr. DiGiorgio’s office is a Direct Specialty Care practice, also referred to as a Direct Pay Practice healthcare model. Dr. DiGiorgio does not participate with any insurance companies or government healthcare programs. (No medical insurance is accepted). This healthcare practice model allows Dr. DiGiorgio to provide personalized medical and surgical dermatology care, with longer in-office visits, and fully transparent pricing. Patients pay a reasonable fee in full at the time services are rendered, which is usually lower in cost compared to the traditional insurance-based healthcare model. The Direct Specialty Care healthcare model restores the special doctor-patient relationship that both physicians and patients desire.

With a Direct Specialty Care healthcare model, you will receive an individualized health care plan based upon what you, as the patient, needs, not what the insurance company dictates. The entire process will be explained to you beforehand. You will never receive any surprise bills and a price list is readily available so you know exactly what to expect prior to your visit. You will always be seen and evaluated by Dr. DiGiorgio, a board-certified dermatologist. You will never be seen by a mid-level provider. Dr. DiGiorgio welcomes you to her practice as family and restores the traditional relationship doctors have always had with their patients.

  • Direct Patient Care (DSC) is a healthcare model that prioritizes the doctor-patient relationship and eliminates the burdensome regulations and costs incurred by insurance companies and the government. This practice model is patient care focused – tailored specifically to provide the best care for the patient without rules and mandates from a third party. Insurance based care is dictated by government and insurance company rules and regulations, preventing patients from getting their wants and needs met. The direct patient care healthcare model puts the patient in full control of their healthcare options. Additionally, because the physician does not carry the overhead costs imposed by the insurance companies, cost savings are passed onto the patient. This results in affordable, high quality, individualized medical care tailored specifically to the patient’s needs, not what the insurance company dictates.

  • You will know the cost of your care before your visit and you will be responsible to pay the full reasonable fee at the time of service. There will be no surprise billing or extra costs. Prices are 100% transparent. Most patients pay less for their care as compared to the traditional insurance-based healthcare model.

There is no copay, no billing of insurance, and no prior authorizations required for your medical care. Direct patient care practices are considered “out of network,” which allows the patient the freedom to choose their medical doctor.

We are not a concierge medical office - meaning there are no yearly membership fees.

  • (not Medicaid or Medicare)
Health savings accounts and flexible spending accounts are accepted forms of payment for medical services. Upon request, our office will provide you with the necessary information to submit to your private insurance company for reimbursement. We cannot guarantee that your insurance company will reimburse you. It is the responsibility of the patient to check if their insurance company provides reimbursement and to understand the rules regarding health care cost reimbursement. All questions regarding insurance reimbursement should be directed to your insurance company.

  • These services are not performed “in-house”, therefore, patients may elect to utilize their insurance benefits to cover the costs of pathology services or laboratory services.

Pathology services are provided by a physician called a pathologist, who has undergone specific training to examine tissue under the microscope and render a diagnosis. In dermatology, pathology services may be utilized when the physician performs a skin biopsy to establish the diagnosis of a skin lesion or rash or when performing a skin excision. Laboratory services include blood work that may be required when certain medications are prescribed or to diagnose some conditions.

You will be notified if any of these services will be a part of your medical dermatology care. It is the patient’s responsibility to contact their insurance provider for information on the cost of pathology or laboratory services.

  • The government requires you to sign an agreement indicating that you understand that medical services will not be covered and that you agree to pay out of pocket for such services. Pathology services, laboratory services and medications will still be covered under your Medicare. Dr. DiGiorgio can provide cosmetic treatments that are not covered by Medicare without a written agreement.

  • If you have Medicaid in Massachusetts (MassHealth), the government requires that you sign a private agreement with Dr. DiGiorgio indicating that you understand medical services provided by Dr. DiGiorgio will not be paid for by Medicaid and that you independently agree to pay out of pocket for such services before you can be seen for medical care.

Dr. DiGiorgio can provide cosmetic treatments that are not covered by MassHealth without a written agreement. Pathology services, laboratory services and medications will still be covered under your Medicare.
